Cannot build Rescue Media with Macrium Reflect

I have not been able to carry out the first task with Macrium Reflect Free. After clicking Build it appears to be working for a while but every time it gets stuck while trying to create the WiFi function. After running continuously for a while Windows closes down, and nothing has been installed on the selected USB drive. I have looked at the tutorial on this site but have not found anything which deals with this.

    Can someone help Please?

What version do you have? There was a new release on 12th October with some relevant fixes: Macrium Reflect v7.2.3858

    Macrium Reflect Patch Details

If you are on an earlier release, use 'Other Tasks > Check for updates...'.

Bipra external drive no longer connects

My BIPRA external USB Hard Drive has stopped connecting. I use it to provide ample extra storage for my 2-in-1 tablet PC, mainly for backup purposes, which it did very well until recently. Now it either does not connect at all, or if it does it is not good enough to enable reading and writing, or for the Drive to be listed in MY PC.

The Drive has two cables, one is USB to USB for data, the other is USB to phono for additional power input. In the past it did work OK with just the data cable, but now it does not work even with both cables in use. I know there is 'basic' connection because the LED lights up (and there is the normal USB connecting / disconnecting pinging sound.) When first trying to connect, Windows frequently notifies that an unrecognised or faulty USB devices is detected. During brief periods of it working I have been able to check the Drive for disk errors, with zero results.

I have now tried every configuration possible, using different ports, with or without hubs.I have used an air duster to clean the connections..

    What else can I try?

Open Device Manager, click 'View > Show hidden devices'. Find your external drive in the list under 'Disk drives'. Right-click on it and select 'Uninstal device'. Now try connecting it again.

If it still fails, try another USB to USB cable (if you have one), the original may be faulty.

Thanks for your response. I tried your two suggestions without success. After uninstalling the hidden drive in Device Manager it would not connect / re-install.

Can you try it on another machine? It could be the drive itself that's developed a fault.

Re Macrium Reflect, I posted a reply but it has not appeared --- I must be doing something (else) wrong!?

I have the current version. After unchecking the WiFi option I have been able to create the bootable USB drive (I think). How do I check that it will work? I was expecting some response when I press the power button (as with an earlier AOMEI bootable drive I used to have), but the PC boots up (sometimes reluctantly) in the same way as before. When, as has happened, it refuses to boot the presence of the bootable drive seems to make no difference.

One thing that can stop you being able to boot from a usb is if Fast Startup is turned on in Windows. That's a form of hibernation and resuming from hibernation will bypass the choice of boot device. If you have Fast Startup turned on then use Restart instead of Shut down. A Restart does not use Fast Startup, it will always perform a full 'cold boot'.

Additionally, on some machines you may have to go into the bios and change the boot order before you can boot from a usb. On others you have to press a function key at boot (often F12) to get a choice of boot devices. Check you manual.

RE my Bipra Drive: your suggestion to try it on another computer has not resolved the issue but it was a good idea. When I tried it on my old XP laptop it worked perfectly, so that has ruled out the Drive itself (or cables) being faulty. If it had not worked when I first got it I would have assumed my small hybrid tablet PC did not have the power to run it (as has proved to be the case with an external USB DVD Drive). But it has been connecting and working fine for about a year. I have many files backed up to it, including File History.

It is beyond me as to why, having been OK in the recent past, it is now not able to connect correctly. I could understand it might be wear on the USB ports, but I have tried it with four different ports on the PC, plus two hubs. Do you have any further ideas on what I might try?

Do you have Macrium Reflect Free, or do you have the paid for version? If it's the paid for one, do you have Image Guardian turned on. That may be 'protecting' the drive somehow.
