Using File History on external USB drive.

I have all my docs on a separate drive than my system drive c:, called drive I, and I back up using FileHistory to drive K. I and K are different partitions on a separate but the same secondary hard drive, which is silly seeing that if the actual hardware crashed no files or backup. I have tried saving using filehistory to a separate usb hard drive, but there is a problem because it cannot move outlook files which have a long path name due to the way filehistory indexes them. Any ideas.

I wouldn't rely on File History which can be unreliable. I use scheduled Macrium Reflect backups to two locations and make a monthly manual backup of user files to an external drive.

If it is possible to remap/reconfigure outlook "data folder" you could put it on a dir in the I drive, like "olf" (outlook files) and then configure file history to save that olf folder, this shoud solve the lenght limit hopefully.

As Steve C. and dalchina said, the paid version can be, sorry for the misleading.

Perhaps better to use a 3rd party backup/syncing program (in addition to disk imaging of course..

).

I recall someone saying they still used this:
Download SyncToy 2.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center

There are plenty of data backup programs out there- Macrium Reflect (licensed) offers data backup too.

Depends what you want- syncing/scheduled/manual....

I think it is because file history renames outlook.pst files like this. anyway will stick with what I have but can always backup to my network which should work.
