    SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency=0 is what automatic frequency?

    I am trying to make automated restore points happen more often. I followed the tutorial to create the SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency DWORD in the registry.

    I can use a frequency of 1440 to make a restore point every day, but if the frequency is 0, how often are restore points automatically created, if at all?

    Hi, have you followed either of these?

    Automatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials
    Automatically Create System Restore Point at Startup in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    I set up my own schedule a long time back - a new task scheduler task- it creates one daily.

    However, do NOT depend on restore points- restoring may well fail- and frequently does (making no changes to your PC).

    Which is why the routine and regular use of disk imaging is so often recommended - regarded as essential. Not the same thing at all, but the most secure. e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets.

    (The nearest 3rd party tool I know of to System Restore is Rollback RX - which does more I believe)

    Thanks I will try using Task Scheduler.

    So it sounds like the registry setting itself does not automatically create restore points, instead it specifies how often restore points can be made via other means?

    I'm afraid I don't know more about that value than it says in the tutorial, sorry.

    However, I think the last of Brink's comments after the tutorial probably clarifies what that does:
    "SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency" is for if an app, command, or schedule calls to create a restore point in Windows 10, system restore will only create the restore point if no other restore point has already been created within the past 24 hours (1440 minutes) by default. If it's been longer than 24 hours since the last restore point, it will get created. Changing the "SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency" allows you to change the default 24 hours to what you want instead based on your needs.

    Users can always manually create a restore point at any time from within the System Restore user interface though.
    I set mine up (way before the tutorial I first quoted went thru some amendments) thus:
    SystemRestorePointCreationFrequency=0 is what automatic frequency?-1.jpg
    - which works:

    Great! I missed that explanation.
