    Microsoft Windows Recovery Environment

    Hello!

I have a usb key with Microsoft Windows Recovery Environment installed.
I haven't installed it and I hardly know about Microsoft Windows Recovery Environment. That's my sister's usb and she claims that this usb key contains many pictures she cares about.

    My questions are :
Is it possible to rescue files from this usb key ?
What I am supposed to do with this usb key?

I tried to open it with PowerISO and I can just see a sort of back up and all files are .ini

Thank you for any help !

    Hi ellem89

If you ran the process to create a Recovery Drive then Windows told you all files on the device would be deleted and asked you to confirm. If this is a very large USB, in terms of storage, maybe some of the sectors were not overwritten but there recovery is still very questionable. Maybe recuva will find something.

If it is a smaller USB, which just match the size required by the process, which is the more likely use case, then they have all likely been overwritten.

Basically my assessment is they are gone.

You boot from a recovery drive when you main system won't boot. It allows you to perform repair tasks and or re-install Windows.

    Try booting from it.
