Is 2.5 or 3.5 hard drive more durable usually

Is a 2.5 portable hard drive more durable?
or is a 3.5 internal hard drive more durable?

Yes, I truly know that, no matter what, any drive could fail at
any time and backup is always a must.

However, is there any research or statistics suggesting
which type of drive is more durable? in that case I can stick
    to a particular type

I use both and I don't think it matters. I have 2.5 and 3.5 that have been in service for years, in excess of five.

What I do believe matters is the make. If I'm buying I only buy Western Digital. I do not buy drives enclosed in enclosures that can't be opening.

Should be interesting see what other members think.

i think that also 3.5 drives can be portable (with their power supply and extra weight for being bigger); and what really matters is if they have defects and how much at risk they are; surely an external portable can be dropped; for an internal you have to drop the entire PC.
I have however a WD blue 3.5 desktop HD that one day simply failed (and backups saved me), i turned on the PC and the disk was dead.

Is the end use what you want but always backup.

2.5 contains more data per inch, so it is more inclined to damage, in theory. Then again, 2.5 is smaller, more compact, so it has a lesser chance of a physical damage (ADATA HD710P) and it also takes less and more steady voltage, since it is powered by USB only (no external adapter). I would pick 2.5 over 3.5 any time.

    Hi,
Depends really there are 7200rpm hdd's in both sizes if comparing that you'll usually see the 2.5" has a lower cache or whet ever it's called.

Hi. Sorry, do you mean you prefer 2.5 more always?

Sorry, what do you imply? I don't have too much tech knowledge. 2.5 has lower cache so it is more durable over time?

Assume that I will never drop my hard drive. Then do you advise 2.5 or 3.5 ?

I don't think there is any enclosure that can't be opened if you want to

Agree you can open anything but some of the encase / sealed ones are solder to electronics. So either fails and the data is gone.

I don't have factual numbers but I believe I see more failures with the prepackaged drives. Even on this forum. Again it is my perception, others no doubt have other perceptions.

When I buy drives, I buy them as standalone drives. Then if required buy an enclosure, a cable or install in a system.
