Which is really better? Macrium or Acronis?

    Hi.

I've been thinking about Macrium and Acronis and each has their own + and - so I would like to hear some opinions.

I know that Acronis has been my "go to" for quite some time and I have faith in it but some Acronis users have migrated to Macrium and I am trying to understand why they would want to do that.

What does Macrium bring to the table that Acronis doesn't? And vice-versa.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    TIA :)

I had at least two failed restores with Acronis in the last year or so. Both times I was super mad when it happened. I did backups prior to updating or installing things so I could restore a backup to get rid of all traces. Rather than get into details on what happened, I will say they failed to restore and one of those times I nearly had to clean install to get Windows working correctly.

I was searching for a new backup program and stumbled across this forum where Macrium was being recommended as the go to backup program. I have since used Macrium to do the job I was using Acronis for. I have not had a single failure when restoring images with Macrium.

Also Acronis had began bundling this, that and more into their program. I just wanted a program to backup and restore if needed. I didn't want all these other bells and whistles that came with it.

I am now a happy Macrium user and my bootable media works every time for me. That was another failure with Acronis as well.

Macrium Reflect is the only way to go.

Whole lot of opinions here: How much do you trust Macrium Reflect? - Windows 10 Forums and many other similar threads.

Can't say what Acronis brings to the table, but Macrium has always worked very well, backup and restore. I have no reason to experiment with anything else. It just works. Period.

OK. I will uninstall Acronis and give Macrium the torture test.
I do agree that Acronis has some unnecessary bloat to it and forced features.

    Some good comments here.

    Thanks!

Acronis software is poorly engineered and unreliable. Macrium Reflect is fine.

The biggest attraction is that there is a free version of Macrium Reflect which is fine for most users. Acronis only give crappy free versions when bundled with a hard drive.

I gave up using Acronis - too unreliable and it took months to fix bugs. Macrium Reflect bugs are fixed in days!

    All points noted. Thanks again!
Will try Reflect and see how it works.

Just my personal opinion of Acronis viewed from a software developers point of view. The current marketing model that Acronis subscribes to does not allow for proper testing "quote unquote". They had a very strong model and product, that worked extremely well years ago, but they abandoned it for the sake of more sales, ie: churn the customer base. Make them buy a new version every year. It does generate a great revenue stream, but in their case they have lost their core group of supporters many years ago because of the continued problems they encounter due to not thoroughly testing new releases. When they changed their sales model, they stopped all customer support in that, if a customer problem is encountered, it would be claimed to be fixed in the NEXT RELEASE. Most older customers could not tolerate that. I know I couldn't !

But by far, for the casual home user, that only is concerned about backing up ie: Family Pictures, it is a very viable solution. Easy to use and the odds of them screwing their system up, are quite low vs more tech savvy users.

I have built new systems over the years that Acronis could backup (under the installed OS), but never had a chance to restore in case of a disaster due to lack of drivers, support for exotic devices etc. In some cases Acronis would personally send me, a customized Linux ISO, that actually worked. But here is the problem, what about the next guy with a similar configuration. For my self, it became obvious to me that right around Acronis 2014, they really didn't want to support my usage of their product.

For me, after bench marking, testing etc: and now 4 years of usage Macrium Reflect, is what I consider Industrial strength Software. And I'm sure there are many here that will state the same thing. They have problems, but they get them solved and the end users are happy.
