Which is really better? Macrium or Acronis?

I used Acronis for backups (I always did a full hard drive backup - all partitions) for about 5 years. I had to do one restore over that period and it worked OK. However, in 2013 I had some failures and Acronis failed me twice. It didn't get a third chance and I switched to Macrium. Haven't had an issue (yet) with Macrium.

Macrium Reflect, is what I consider Industrial strength Software... They have problems, but they get them solved and the end users are happy.
Macrium go the extra mile. They recently fixed a bug that was not of their making, a bug introduced by Microsoft in the Skip Ahead Insider Preview for the version that will be released in H1 2019.

All I can say is I have used both. I never had a successful image restore with Acronis. I have never had a Macrium restore fail. Acronis is no longer installed on my computer.

Check you have no low level Acronis disk filters left behind after uninstalling. I had these which were difficult to remove.

I had to manually edit the Registry to get rid of all the Acronis leftover entries. I had uninstalled Acronis using Revo Uninstaller Pro with the Registry and leftover files scan but there were still many Registry entries left over (I estimate near 100). It took a long time but eventually I got rid of them all (I was on Win 7 at the time). I don't know if they would have caused any problems but I wanted them gone.

Unrelated but I had to do the same thing with Google updater. I installed Google Chrome on my desktop that I also use for my recording studio. After install I started getting dropouts on recordings. As Chrome was the only new install, I uninstalled Chrome but the dropouts continued. I isolated it down to a Google Updater that was installed with Chrome as the culprit. Uninstalling the Update still resulted in some dropouts. I had to manually edit the registry and remove the multitude of Google entries and after that no more dropouts.

Yes, both of you are right. I had to do a clean install to get rid of Acronis. To me, it was easier doing that than going through the registry and finding everything. It even set up shop in the System Reserved on Windows 7. It was as bad as getting rid of a virus.
