You can disable Windows Defender Verification in Task Scheduler. I just did. I'll have to do this many more times until Microsoft gets this fixed. Need to check it after every update I guess.

Thanks for that info...I am going to hold off on doing that for the short term.... I cycled system protection off, then back on and created my own restore point yesterday.
Today, it updated itself to build 17134.376 so I created another restore point and will see what happens.

I am also wondering, and I know it might be a stupid but stranger things have happened......if simply cycling system restore off to on again might reset something that screwed up in one of the updates and make it all good again. That's why I did that yesterday and cleared out all those goofy restore points just to see what would happen. .....But today it updated itself again and I wasn't expecting that.because it updated on Tuesday like it usually does on the first of the month.

No, that's been tried many times, makes no difference. You'll get another restore point tomorrow.

    .....and I did...

Another interesting thing that I noticed is that I can give it 25G worth of space for restore points, and it only gets to around 1/3rd of that before it deletes the earlier ones. I noticed that quite a while ago so it is nothing new on 2 computers for me. I think 8.1 did that as well.

Disabling the Task Scheduler entry does work. I've had no System Restore Points created since I did that other than the one I created.

Mine stopped making those restore points 3 weeks ago or so with 1809 (pro) cumulative update. I didn't mess with task scheduler, but I did go to group policy editor after the upgrade then to Defender then disabled "create a restore point". Which should have done nothing, actually, because it was not configured before.

I just noticed my restore points were wiped that were before the 1809 update. But it wipes them anyhow after a short time it seems even tho I have a lot of room set aside for backup. I would rather be able to keep my danged restore points for a good while because it takes a while for bugs to show up sometimes. Is there a time limit on saved restore points ? Thanks.

Yes, this was fixed in both 1809 and 1803 by a recent cumulative update.

Both my 1803 build 17134.471 and 1809 build 17763.194 machines have downloaded definition updates without creating restore points.

That is normal for any features update. The OS has changed, this means that the earlier restore points can no longer be applied because they would try to restore elements of the previous OS.
