    Auto backup and sync

HI everyone...I'm back again with a question.

I have a new 2TB Portable Hard Drive. When I plug the drive into my computer I would like it to automatically synchronise with selected folders on my PC.

Windows 10 does have a "backup" option but that appears to only offer scheduled backups rather than only occurring when the portable drive is plugged in.

Are there any useful tools out there in general use you would recommend?

I've seen this type of application bundled with some external drives, but the majority of reviews by professionals do not recommend their use, most users here use either Macrium Reflect or more traditional products such as Aomei Backupper. You keep the drive disconnected and only attach when a backup is due. If you forget to connect then some software will perform the backup when next you attach the drive, but most will simply not perform the backup, log the fact and allow you to remain in control

That shows the option if Aomei Backupper misses a scheduled backup.

Here's one called Genie Timeline (recent giveaway) - this description seems to fit your situation better:

This one looks interesting, and from a reputable company:

I could easily envisage the need for critical data files needing specific backup perhaps more frequently than one would use disk/partition imaging, and a regime where both were then used.

    Thank you for the replies.

I came across a Microsoft tool called Sync Toy which while it is not automatic is easy to configure and very simple to use. I will see how I go with it and if it isn't suiting my needs I can look into the suggestions above.

The point about backing up to an external drive is that it can be removed and hence is hacker proof whilst offline.
