Help "Creating a Full Backup Image"

From the tutorial, I installed the Macrium Reflect (free edition), created and tested the rescue media.
For part 3, I'm using new Scandisk brand 64gb USB 3.0. Should this be checked or "formatted" a certain way before I get started?

Macrium will take care of that

I've been going over the tutorial on doing the image. Does the image include the bookmarks/favorites or do I have to copy those on to a separate usb?

#2 Do I want to image "all selected disks and partitions"?

#4 says images can be verified manually or automatically. But says 'auto' in dark blue on left, but arrow points to a checkbox. Is that box left unchecked? Does not say that box is the "manual" option.

#5 Says add a comment, click "ok", then click "next". There is no "next". It has "ok" and "cancel".

#6 How many gb's would I enter in the box? Then it says click "finish". Would I be done at that point if I am doing an image of "all selected disks and partitions" as in section #2?

If you click 'Create an image of the partition(s) required to restore Windows' it includes everything, your user account, you desktop and your bookmarks.

#2 Do I want to image "all selected disks and partitions"?
Selecting 'Create an image of the partition(s) required to restore Windows' will pre-select the boxes for all the partitions necessary to restore windows, you need to image all the selected partitions.

#4 says images can be verified manually or automatically. But says 'auto' in dark blue on left, but arrow points to a checkbox. Is that box left unchecked? Does not say that box is the "manual" option.
If you tick that box it will verify automatically immediately after making the image. If you leave it unticked it won't. The manual verify can be done at any time after you have made the image. See step 10. in Part Three of the tutorial which says:
10.) Click Restore tab to see image properties and to manually verify it if you so prefer:

#5 Says add a comment, click "ok", then click "next". There is no "next". It has "ok" and "cancel".
You click 'Advanced options' to get the window to type the comments. After you click OK the Advanced options window closes and you are back to the screen with the 'Next' button, then you click Next to continue.

#6 How many gb's would I enter in the box? Then it says click "finish". Would I be done at that point if I am doing an image of "all selected disks and partitions" as in section #2?
This setting will delete the oldest image on the drive you are storing the image on if there isn't enough space to create a new image. For your first image it doesn't matter what you put here. For now, set it to the minimum 1GB, you can always change it later once you are more familiar with using Macrium.

sounds backwards. If I "create image of partitions required to restore windows..." (only windows)...what about the non-windows type stuff I'm adding to set things up the way I use it? (yahoo, this forum, xfinity. news sites, etc), sounds like those do not get included.

You say to click "advanced options".....that's from section #3.....so shouldn't section #5 tutorial bottom right say "ok" and "next"?

Even tho #6 says click "finish", I still go to 7, 8, and 9?

And where do you think all those things are stored when the PC is turned off? All the programs you use or have installed, like your browsers, are on the C: drive in the Programs folder. All your bookmarks, links, desktop, documents - in fact everything you do and keep and all your settings are in your user folder in C:\Users. The C: drive is one of "...partitions required to restore windows..." so everything you want will be in the image.

The key thing to remember is that if you 'Create an image of the partition(s) required to restore Windows' it means restore windows exactly as it was when you made the image - including all your personal stuff.

I'ts confusing to me to read "...if you want to image ALL selected disks and partitions...."... vs... "....or ONLY the disks and partitions required to restore windows....". Makes it sound like ALL means you would be taking an image of....everything that's on your computer, ALL the stuff you added. Using the word "only" makes it sound like something is being excluded.
I guess disks/partitions/folders/drives kind of talk is a bit much for me.

When I read "only" to restore windows, I think of only the way the windows system was when I bought it on this comp. Or if someone was just buying/upgrading, etc to w10.

But, you say "only" includes everything I've added....so that's that (even tho I don't get it, it sounds different). So in section #2, I'll be clicking the blue part.

Does this help ? To backup and restore Windows you need only select C and the hidden 'System Reserved' partition. Should you wish to back up the others as well then you manually tick those as well. The other partitions (in my case) are ones I created for specific purposes. I don't back those up with a disk imaging program.

You need to be confident in this and to actually do a backup and restore.

You are over complicating things in your nind.

To boot Windows, you only need two partitions ie the system/EFI partition and the C drive partition.

However, you may have data partitions, recovery partitions etc.

Usually you just tick every partition.

Some machines come with an extra D: or E: drive that's just somewhere to put more data. Your C: drive is the windows system and all your user files, because that's where the get saved by default. You'd have to deliberately save them to the data drive (if you even have one, many machines don't) for them not to be in the image.

An image of 'the partitions required to restore windows' will include ALL your user stuff on C: but not the data drive (if any) as that isn't needed for windows to run. You probably don't have one anyway, so an image of 'the partitions required to restore windows' would be all of you PC.
