Is it EaseUS Todo Backup that simple?

I was trying out this backup system, and to my surprise, both disk/partition backup and system backup have finished fairly soon.

Also, I was expecting a shutdown for a full system partition backup, but both were done online while I was working on other stuff.

Is it really that simple and secure??

    Thanks in advance!

Modern imaging tools use volume snapshot (vss) i.e. they snapshot the pc so future changes do not affect the backup.

So you can continue to use the pc to a limited degree eg surfing web, light editing.

If you tried to reboot, the backup would fail. Messing around with system files would probably cause the backup to fail.

Certain activities are really inadvisable eg deleting or resizing partitions for example.

In the end, the backup will either work or fail but you will get a failure mesage.

I'm not talking about rebooting in the middle of the proccess, I'm saying that I thought the system would reboot to perform the backup in a pre OS state.

So, the "online" backup is an 1:1 image of the system, or the partition (depending on the type of backup)? If I restore it will everything be virtually equal as it was?

Like, it's should be the same as cloning a partition block by block, right (maybe not the same method, but the same result)?

    Thanks!

Yes, as explained the volume snapshot service allows a backup of the snapshot to be made while allowing you to continue using the system. If you, say, save a text file from Notepad after starting the backup it won't be in the system image because it didn't exist at the time the snapshot was taken.

Other full system imaging uses VSS too, and can back up the complete system while it is running. Macrium does this, even Microsoft's built-in 'Backup & Restore - create a system image' uses VSS (not that anyone would recommend using it).

Just note that a cloned image is just that and can be booted and run the system from the clone, while backup image is not bootable. It requires a restore of the image which needs to be performed while in a different running environment ie: Win PE - Linux etc. But the image is a snap shot of your system/partition as it existed when you started the image backup.

Yep - in fact you cannot do scheduled backups from the winpe environment.

The days of needing to reboot to backup are long gone.
