Windowss 10 cannot clone from SSD to Hard Drive

Is there a preferred program and method to simply clone an SSD install of Win10 to a freshly formatted hard disk with plenty of room. Format and MBR was done through Win10 on the SSD to the HD.

I have been having a repeated problem of drive recognition after running Norton Ghost which says
successful completion in the usual way. Then on reboot I get the grey screen for Boot Manager which says if I recall right no device connected. The HD shows up at POST etc and is just in the Boot area so far as I can see.

Full disclosure is I haven't gotten the proper thumb drive yet to make a Win10 Repair disk to get
to the MBR and fix boot commands.

Is this a known problem and is there a good solution?

One other thing on this: On the SSD how can I check for a System overwrite which could display as Win10 (Restored) just like that in parenthesis? The boot error message contains this drive identifier phrase where it should not exist.

Sounds like the bcd entry hasn't been updated by Norton Ghost. Should be easy to fix with the startup repair module in winre or similar.

If you have bootable win10 installation media, you should be able to run startup repair.

Ok, I'll get one made for Win10 when I can.

One detail I have not known how to explain but am trying to fix is that in one of my operations to fix
I was able to run the Win7 repair disk.

What that produced in Win10 was a dual boot message. What do you want to start Windows 10 or
that Windows 10 repair recovered. That's what shows up in the boot error.

So what I'm doing as a workaround is to run System Restore from the SSD (source drive. ) I wound that back about 15 days to the earliest Restore Point I had. Then am re-running old style Norton Ghost to see if
the Restore has overwritten the problem.

I also noticed a problem with old Ghost wherein what I was using needed a wired mouse
due to the programs age. I have been used to doing this on my other connected machine but lapsed
with the new build and install.

My thumb drive should get here soon but it's one I sent for. I needed the larger size ro even
get the System Repair for Win10 made. Why is a cd no longer an option?

You say Format and MBR was done through Win10 on the SSD to the HD you dont do that the clone will do oall that or it will end up with wrong mbr assuming you actually using mbr not gpt. Most ssd firms provide their own clone software for free on their site there are a lot of faults with ghost and win10. Make sure you clone all the disk not just paritions

Last thing today:

After the Restore of the Source SSD, I reran the Ghost prog with no hangups from the
wrong sort of mouse for the Ghost program.

On reboot with only the HD Win10 starts but then runs disk check.
After that a blank screen happens with a lot of background disk activity. I turned it off since I
didn't know what was taking place.

The blank screen-- not blue screen problem-- I had seen before in this operation.

I'm stumped by it all. These are all trial runs for me on a test machine so no real damage done,
but the problem remains for my use of Windows 10.

Wrong sort of mouse for the ghost program? Wow. I've never seen a "ghost compatible" mouse.

Is there a reason you can't switch to Macrium Reflect Free? Sounds a lot more reliable than Ghost if Ghost requires a certain type of mouse to use with it.

This might be it. Adata has a tools kit but I've simply not seen the necessity for it. This an Adata SSD.
I do not deal with partitons but only whole volume. But in thnking back of attempting a partition, in the end
I may have to do a clean wipe on the SSD. There's just no evidence I can see when the SSD loads. I have run
low level formats at various times to avoid install problems.

Maybe I can salvage what setup I have yet. But if not I can start over. This SSD suggestion gives me another direction.

Is there an .iso for Adata Tools? I'll have to look.

Is a ghost mouse a dead mouse. Just use Macrium as suggested.
