You are probably right mate i have already used tutorials from here to fix it about 3 times and would never rely on it for any major backups as Macrium handles those, but it would be nice if Microsoft got it working and reliable....dream on i guess.
Restored my computer back to the Spring Update no issues matter of fact I started to restore an older image then cancelled midway just to restore the Spring Update image I created on September 24th no issues except it took about 9 minutes to restore.
The only issues I have is having to update any non portable programs again and reconfigure any settings I changed which is still much quicker then having to do a complete reset reinstall which takes me many hours.
6 years and 4 months with Macrium Reflect and I've never felt the need to even consider, forget try, another backup and imaging solution. MR is a rock solid backup program just as any backup utility should be. 100% reliable. Go for MR, either free or paid, you won't regret it.
I have done hundreds of restores with no issues. So I guess 99.9%. (There was a corruption issue with their CBT, but I had it disabled).
That CBT was a long time ago, I remember it and it was fixed quickly. I use MR religiously everyday, all my OSs. Even the File Image Backup on my VMs. I particularly like the unattended restore. If you have the Boot Menu option enabled, you can right click an MRIMG and it will re-start, restore, and re-boot all by itself, hands-free. Super for remote work.
I selected 100%, but in reality, if I had the choice I probably would have put 98%.
Although it has never failed me, with computers, you learn to expect the unexpected.
I have used it for years with success, its imaging function.
The only problem it has, it does not perfectly image the drive if it is encrypted including the bootloader. In fact, I almost lost all the data due to a combination of encrypted drive that was imaged to another drive. Normally that works but something did not copy right, or maybe the encrypted bootloader could not be imaged, I don't know. Or maybe to decrypt the bootloader, it had pull some data from the hard drive and the fact it did not work on another disk was a safety feature.
So I encrypted the drive/bootloader. Imaged it with Macrium to another disk. Several weeks go by. The primary drive fails. Spinning rust of course. I try to boot off the clone, and no dice. It does not boot, because it cannot decrypt. Had to recover the data, took me 3 days, what a nightmare.
The main lesson here is, test the image you make. I constantly test mine by booting off the clone.
