including the built in Windows 7 backup/restore. Nothing has ever once failed...
I have to disagree with you about that one.

I used it regularly for the past two years to build my test machine and would say it's about 90% reliable. Where it fails is not in restoring an image, it's in being able to find and recognise an image to restore. Sometimes an image that has previously be restorable just isn't in the list of available images.

And then there's the major 'fail' in 32-bit 1803 (still not fixed) that led me to switch to Macrium.

Maybe Microsoft should run their updates past Macrium before they release them and get them checked out to make sure they work ok before causing further mayhem on the community LOL.

    Hi,
    Why would MS do that
MS wants onedrive to be the recovery method of choice

I just use the winpe to create and restore system images still works fine.

Still like to speak to the dev's on how they are able to backup locked files when other programs (like SyncBack and even Windows itself) can't even open, backup a 2 KB file without balking about it being open? It is like magic.

I did a lot of testing of the various main players in backing up and restoring 32 bit UEFI tablets (two different makes) and only Macrium Reflect Free and Easus Todo Free backed up and restored them. All the others Aomei, Veeam, Acronis, Paragon, Windows all failed for barious reasons. Of the two Macrium, And Easeus, they both worked 100% but Easeus was 5 times or more slower.

I have never found a hardware/software combo that Macrium could not backup and restore (excep our recent skippy hiccup and that was an MS issue).

To me, there is no contest.

What I do not understand is why MS think that backing up data is all we require?

They just seem to have a total blind spot on the value of image backups.

In Windows own Backup & Restore's 'create a system image', the reason for failure in 1803 x86 17134.nnn is that Microsoft broke it for that release and haven't fixed it yet.

32-bit Windows 1803 cannot make a system image, neither can the 32-bit 1803 WinPE restore any known good image, whatever version created it. the 64-bit version works normally.

Broke it, or let it break. MS is not likely to put much support effort into a deprecated feature. Particularly a 32-bit depreciated feature.

You're right, though I think it is more to do with cereberus' interpretation...

FWIW, they still seem to put a little effort into support, apparently it got fixed in Insider build 17711 and should hopefully make its way into 1809....
We fixed an issue where creating a system image from backup and restore in control panel would fail on x86 machines.

If you ask me, Macrium Reflect should be obligatory, first application installed after installing Windows 10. Users often think it as just another backup application but in fact it is much more, giving more than any other free imaging solution....
