restoring OEM recovery partition from usb driver

    Hey,

I backed up the recovery partition on my HP desktop computer to free up some space now need to recover the PC. My issue is I dont know how to put the recovery partition back so that I can run the recovery.

Is there a simple solution to this problem?

Any help would really be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Welcome to TenForums @scott7saunders

We need some more information before we can say.

Was this PC supplied by HP with Windows 10 pre-installed?

How exactly did you 'back up the recovery partition'.

If this is an HP PC, this usually does NOT work -- and the ONLY way they say to restore the original working Recovery partition is to use their Recovery Media which reformats the entire drive, recreating the Recovery partition in the process.

HP changed how all this works in 2018. Previously they came with HP's proprietary Recovery Manager installed, starting in 2018 this has been dropped in favour of the conventional Windows 10 reset/refresh built-in methods.

If this PC was supplied with W10 pre-installed and if it was from 2017 or earlier with Recovery Manager installed and if by 'backed up the recovery partition' the OP means they user the Recovery Manager to 'Create recovery media' then it should be possible to reset this PC.

That's an awful lot of 'if's - until we get more details from @scott7saunders we're just guessing what the current situation is.

    Hey,
Thanks for the replies - really good to know there are people who will kindly offer their expertise.

The machine was purchased in Dec 2017 and the partition was removed using EaseUS partition manager, I basically clicked on the option to back up the entire hidden recovery partition in an attempt to free up space on the hard drive.

As it stands there is a complete mirror of the recovery partition on a separate USB drive however before I have wiped the machine after back and deleted the HP recovery program then I am left with a bit of a quandary.

HP have stopped posting their recovery software on their website and EaseUS has no way of restoring a partition.

Hope that this gives me info.

    Thanks

    Scott

Then it should be still under warranty. You should be able to order the recovery media for your machine direct from HP support. As I understand it, it may be free if you make a claim under warranty.

If not, it starts from £41.

Before spending monies, there might, possibly, be a long shot solution set: If the backup is a real-deal full image of your recovery partition, then it might be possible to create a partition with the original recovery partition name, then restore said image onto that created partition. Now, I have no idea on how to access that restored partition to kick in the recovery you want done.
And, before embarking on such a factory recovery attempt -- make sure you have restorable full images of your present partitions, all the Windows 10 hidden partitions, the present OS partition (which is commonly, inaccurately, called "c drive"), the present Data partition(s) on external media which is then disconnected from the computer before embarking on any factory recovery attempts.

EaseUS has no way of restoring a partition.
Did you use EaseUs to create an image backup or to Delete the partition? If you created an image backup then you can restore it using a EaseUS recue boot disk.

windows 10 restores itself from the winsxs folder - the OEM included a Customization *.ppkg in the hidden Recovery Folder

If you have the customization .ppkg you can restore the OEM customizations to a Clean Install of windows 10 OR after a System Restore/Reset of Windows 10

I guess my point is that you do not need the partition - but rather the customizations made by OEM
