Windows 10 backup error code Ox800706BA or 0x800706BA

Hi I am a new member. Started using Microsoft backup in Windows 7.
I upgraded to Windows 10 and carried on backing up with no problems.
Recently backups have failed with the above error code.

Knowing what the code means would be great, provided I am savy enough to understand it

Hi, if you are using Backup and Restore (Windows 7) then even MS recommends you use 3rd party tools
Windows 7 Backup and Restore deprecated | Microsoft Docs

Most people have moved on from that. For disk imaging we recommend Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage as the most flexible and robust option.

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

MS built in backup and restore is useless, honestly. Cuz once MS rolls out a new update, those restores will be automatically deleted. I would suggest creating your own customized Recovery Partition:

Factory recovery - Create a Custom Recovery Partition

    Windows 10 backup

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your help. I have decided to instead use the simple "copy and paste" method.

    Welcome to TenForums @Kingz19

The error code means "The RPC server is unavailable. (0x800706BA)", unfortunately knowing that isn't going to help you.

You are trying to use 'Backup & Restore (Windows 7)' to create a system image with a 32-bit install of Windows 10 version 1803, os build 17134. You are either just using 'Create a system image', or you may be backing up files and have ticked the 'include a system image' box. Either way, it's creating the system image that fails.

This is a known bug that just affects the 32-bit OS, and only in version 1803. As yet, Microsoft have not issued a fix. See this thread...

1803 creating a system image fails with RPC server error 0x800706BA - Windows 10 Forums

There is a proven workaround given in post #5, but you require a file from the 32-bit version 1709 to use this fix. You'll also need to use a 32-bit 1709 (or earlier) recovery drive or bootable install usb to restore a system image.

Microsoft have at least now acknowledged the bug and have a fix in the Insider builds...

We fixed an issue where creating a system image from backup and restore in control panel would fail on x86 machines.
New Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast Skip Ahead Build 17711 - July 6 Insider - Windows 10 Forums

We will not see that build (or its successor) until version 1809 is released some time in October.

Or you could just do what I've done for my 32-bit 1803 - just install Macrium Reflect Free.

That will take care of your user files, but if you want to be able to restore a working system should your hard drive become corrupted (or die) then you should look into using Macrium Reflect Free.

You are confusing system restore points with image backups.

    Image backups are update proof.
