Try to do to do it every time you install Windows along with hundreds of other settings. :)
I do but if Joe Normal tries that, the BSOD team will probably have to help because of major VSS errors. We should post a warning with registry changes, something like: " The PC General has found it dangerous to computer health for beginners to fiddle in the registry"
Seriously though I do everything "by hand" after so many test installs and reinstalls it's second nature now.
Well, it is not like Joe can create reg file out of it.
I have actually posted my reg file for reference in tweaks section on another forum and people just downloaded it and run like it just an addon and then started complaining, what does not work, things that were even marked in the description. I did not know, if I have to laugh or cry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Wcmsvc]
; Windows Connection Manager (Required for WiFi Conection)
"Start"=dword:00000004
EDIT: I have done it on this forum as well, going to put big WARNING there.
Are you saying it was just disabled on clean install or you were unable to enable it after clean install. I noticed mine was disabled after clean install, but i just did it way Cliff S showed as i always do. If clean install why worry if it was enabled yet, upgrade i can see maybe. Just trying to understand this post, reasons for registry changes.
It was disabled after clean install, just trying to automat the process of enabling it.
The main idea though is, why it is even disabled, when some people have it enabled.
But back to your original question( a good one at that) I guess that maybe during install(when winsat is first run maybe) it checks if there is enough disk space or good enough CPU for VSS, as smaller devices such as phones and tablets don't. Also the old SSD tweak argument, on the older ones it was too many unnecessary writes some believed(I leave it on personally).
What are your thoughts/guesses?
I think, you have solved it, I have partion set to 40GB, that seems reasonable.
This forums actually post tutorials, which sometimes include reg options as well, so no big deal, it is just another way of doing things, like I found this done via cmd: Change Disk Space Usage
Do not even remind me, just yesterday, I had to install Windows 5 times, because of an activation issue.
I had 10240 RTM before, activated via an upgrade process 8.1 to 10 and then clean 10 without a key. But when I did a clean setup with new ISO from MS after 29-th July, activation did not work, so I used the original ISO, it did not work. So I had to go through the whole process again, install 8.1, then 8.1 to 10, then clean 10. Anyway, there are still some issues, so I plan to reinstall 10 again and again until I get it fixed and I try to make it as painless as possible. When you do it so many times, you can not even tell, if you have had setup something now or last time, so you can easily miss some things.
