Initially when booted to the Macrium PE10 recovery media there are no mapped drives. I clicked the 'network drive' icon in the PE Explorer (top left) to map some drives. You'll see two network drives I had already mapped as Y: and Z: in my screenshot, with a third about to be mapped. You can also open a command prompt and use the NET USE command.
With Password Protected sharing turned off your shares and files are still protected. Access is still being controlled by the Share permissions and the ntfs file permissions. What you can see is determined by the name you use to connect. By default Windows will try to connect to the other PC with the name and password you used to sign into this PC. If they don't match an account on the PC you are connecting to you will be challenged for a name/password that exists on the remote PC.The password protected sharing is another issue. I don't think I want to turn this off, though it's probably safe to do so in my home environment. I have used it for as long as I can remember!
