That darn SMB1...! Has anyone heard if MS is going to come out with an alternative to making the old "Networking Neighborhood" work in the next version of Win 10? Networking has become frustrating since Version 1709.

I also have a USB share on a router, and I had to implement SMB1 to make it work at all. So, what Microsoft taketh away, will they ever give it back in any form?? It's pretty hard to get Networking to function correctly, I've found, without SMB1. And I still hear it is up in the air whether or not MS patched the security hole in SMB1. Some seem to think they have, others don't. I have it implemented in a Tenda Router that acts as an Access Point behind my main router, so I think I might have a margin of safety there.

Bree, thanks for that tip on SMB1 in Macrium. I'll try it again in the next few days.

    Some Paragon info

Paragon Backup & recovery is now part of Paragon Hard Disk Manager and the user manual link is at the foot of that webpage.

The software is free for home use but requires registration then activation. Registration is limited to a single computer so I suppose that means multi-computer users would have to create an email address for each required computer to register multiple copies.

I have not used Paragon for several years but it apparently does not load the system with permanent processes & that sounds attractive.

Best Windows backup software 2019 - PCWorld [this consolidated review includes Acronis TI, Macrium reflect & Paragon but some of the individual product reviews are so dated that they inspire little confidence] I thought that I got that link from another post in this thread but, now I'm looking through to say thanks, I cannot find it.

@bilateral See my post at I think the latest Version and CU have fixed this limitation - TenForums Since I had taken no remedial action at all, I think yours ought to be working again as well.

Just a footnote to all for 2019 -

    1. Macrium - Great, a bit rough around the edges.
    2. Acronis Workstation - Polished product with little bloat. Acronis True Image Home has much more bloat. Best to evaluate Workstation.
    3. Easeus - Good (and getting better) but not there just yet.

    Stay away from Paragon!

    FWIW.
Curiosity. What do you consider the rough edges with Macrium? That could mean anything. Some clarification, please.

    Hi.

There are some quirks in the user interface where it doesn't (dynamically) refresh certain changes after you made them.

As a quick example, when I clear the logs, I actually have to refresh the screen to see that the logs were cleared.
Another is selecting a disk or partition to image. Again, the selection does not show until the refresh.

I emailed their technical support and they said that these issues would be addressed.

That's about it. Great program that is fast and has a low system footprint.

Thanks. I just tested that Logs delete. had a bunch in there, 2 months worth. I changed the retention to 3 weeks, click ok, clicked remove now, it did, and the screen refreshed by itself to show the results. Maybe it's fixed now.

Paragon have recently released Backup and Recovery 17 free.

(Presumably the Hard Disk Manager 17 will be released soon.)

    Pros:

It is relatively easy to use
It offers several different image formats

    Cons:
The files added to winpe are large
The ability to exclude files/folders from backup image has been removed. That is pretty silly because it was the feature the main competition does not have.

I have suggested they put that feature back in.
The ability to exclude files/folders from backup image has been removed alone would completely eliminate Paragon from my bag of tricks!

I have several external hard drives and at any given point, I might need to back up only one particular drive. If I were required to back up everything else along with it, that would be a show stopper.

I'm with others here . . . Macrium Reflect is the best by far. And, there's a very reliable free version.

Actually, I sent my email after the last build. The issues stated above have not been corrected as of v7.2.3957 - 21st December 2018.
They are necessary and easy fixes.

Nothing better than Macrium Reflect, I bought it myself, and just like TC reported ....it refreshes fine for me also.
