For people who prefer a cloned disk as a bootable backup, Casper has been in the game for years. It has a neat way of updating the cloned drive copying only the changed sectors. A lot of people prefer that to farting around with images

wouldnt ssd optimization and hdd scheduled defrags mess that entire idea up ?
plus with so many clusters per volume cluster to cluster compare seems like an extra work / time as it utilizes 2 reads , 1 compare and 1 write (changed) vs a straight 1 read 1 write along the way

I don't use it, so I don't know how they keep track of the changes. Possibly similar to the way differential images are made. Check it out for yourself. A lot of people use it. Ask the Casper team.

I had difficulty cloning a new SSHD 2TB Seagate FireCuda for my Grandson. Error messages with both Macrium and Aomei. "The target disk has an incompatible sector size for this operation. Please choose a different disk"
I was using a Sata/IDE USB connector. I found out that it's not possible to clone disks that contain different sector sizing using a SATA USB connection. Plugged the new SSHD directly into a Sata port on the MOBO and cloned an exact mirror copy of original 2 TB SSSHD with no problems. Removed the source HD and booted from the New SSHD.

I had two options to clone since this was a laptop and those were hdd caddy or usb adapter , i went for the caddy right away , these processes take huge times specially we usually upgrade when drives are full , so 1 TB of data transfer should be always dealt on a faster interface and usb is known to be bottle necked .

Both disks attached Easy to fix , either by running startup repair, or ( preferably ) using bcdboot command.

You will also need to fix the drive letter. Too difficult to explain how to do that, so I made a little program
    Attachment 194404

Just select the drive letter in the dropdown , then click FIX.
