@RonBin79 - posting this earlier than Wednesday in case you pop back in before then. Will give you a chance to digest and ask questions, if any. (Thursday is fine.....)

First, we want to disable the Scheduled entry you currently have. Not delete, just disable. Don't want it to accidentally interfere with any manual backup, for any reason. You can always go back to it if needed/wanted by enabling it. I'm using the screenshot you posted. Simply right click on the entry, and click Disable. The Status column will change to Disabled.

I'm going to make a presumption that you would want to see what is happening, have progress bars, and progress messages. To see any error messages or warnings that may occur. Basically, know it's alive and functioning, with Startup and Completion messages. All the warm and fuzzy stuff.

We could create a shortcut of the whole process on your Desktop, but you would have no visual progress, just a starting pop-up, then the backup running in the background. This way you see what is happening, all steps.

You know this part, but I'll repeat....connect your backup drive. Make sure it's happy.

Open the Macrium app like you would normally do. I'm using screenshots from my computer, but yours are the same. First screen you see is this one. Click the Backup Definition Files tab.

Remember, these are my screenshots. You should have one definition file showing. Maybe 2 if there was a test one you had earlier, I don't recall. We are dealing with the one you used to create the Schedule Entry. Just that one.

Right click the Definition file. You will see "Run Now" about half way down the options. Hover over or click the "Run Now". You will see all the options to the right for Prompt, Full, Differential, Incremental. If you have the free version, the Incremental will not work and you will get a polite message saying so (see below).

I'm not going to get into the meanings/uses for all the options at this time. That is for another discussion and thread. The one you want to use is Full....just like your Schedule Entry. Click Full. It will start the process and display a running scenario of the progress. When done, you will get a Completion message in a box in the middle of the screen. All the info displayed is in the log file for the backup, but you can scroll thru this display all you want. When done, click OK, and close the program. Eject your backup drive and put safely away.

    Done.

Post back if anything is not clear or you have questions.

    TC......

    Hi,
I was annoyed that I couldn't monitor the progress of my scheduled backup, until I recently found the Macrium icon hidden in my system tray. When I right click on that, I can show or hide the progress window as I want. ( It just occurred to me that maybe Ron still has his backup set to begin at 19:00, not 17:00. Could explain why no backup ran at that time?)

Yes, I see that, Eddie. But Ron wants to try going the manual route to see if it fits him better. He's free to do it either way. Have to wait and see what he says. I just posted instructions and examples for what he asked for.

Understood - either way, he will get his backup image.

Hi, Ron! You were .5 mm from it! From your screenshot. The second one listed is the one you used to create the Schedule entry. The "Monday" one. The others can be deleted if you wish so they don't cause confusion. Then you'll have only the one you need. Definitions can always be created at will, don't worry.

Right Click the "Monday" definition...... you will see the options.

    Talk later......Dick

Can anyone help me with wome info about a WD Element please?

    Good Morning Dick,
Deleted "Monday" and all the others too, clicked on "Run" and as you will see, it is now doing another back up! Can I assume that this will be the way to start a Manual back up when I want to do so? I have a nice green line travelling across the screen. Great! will be about this afternoon and will leave the computer on. Will be out this evening but at home (thank goodness) Thursday all day and in the evening so hopefully, will catch up with you then. Thanks again for your help, don't know what I would do without it!!!

Hope all is well at your end.

    Cheers Ron

    @RonBin79

Morning, Ron. You have done everything exactly correctly. Do Not delete the "Monday" definition file. That is the only one you have left. It is the one you will use whenever you want to manually do a backup. All is fine. It is all correct.

Going forward, this will be the way you will manually start your backup when it is convenient to you. With progress screens and all. This is correct.

If you still have the completion message on the screen, would love to see a screenshot of it. Not important, just curious.

    Congratulations!
