    Hi Ron, I have been following this and you are in excellent hands with this with a great teacher.
    You are making lots of progress and following thru perfectly.

    Please start a New Thread about the problem with the USB's.
    This way is will not take this thread way off track.

    @RonBin79

    Ron, good day.....

    I'd like to see the Backup Definition File that the Macrium folks created for you. Instead of a series of screenshots, it would be much, much easier if I had the definition file itself. That way, I can look at it using my Macrium software, and easily see the whole picture, and make some suggestions for a manual definition file you can use "on demand" in addition to the Scheduled definition you have. This contains no personal information at all, just a file with instructions for Macrium.

    If you are willing to post a copy of your current definition file, as created by the Macrium Support people, here are the instructions. Quite easy, and very similar to posting a picture or image.

    All the info you see on these screenshots is from my system, please ignore anything that does not pertain

    First, open (start) the Macrium software. At the very top, click on Backup Definition Files.

    There should be only 1 file listed, the one Macrium made. If there are more than one, choose the first one. They should all be in the same user folder as indicated to the right of the file name.

    Right click the file name. Click Open Containing Folder.

    Right click the appropriate file. If more than one file, hold the CTRL key on the bottom left of the keyboard, then press the letter A to select them all.

    Click Send to. Click Compressed (zipped) Folder.

    A "zip" folder will be created in the same folder as your definition file, likely right under it.

    This is the file I would like you to post. Attach it just like you would a screenshot. I can then make a copy and look at all the details on my system.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    No hurry with this, I know you are out today. When you have a chance.

    Thanks, TC...

    Ron, I stated in my post right up front that the screenshots were from my computer, and to please ignore. They are an example only. Based on what you posted, the one named Monday 5pm backup.xml is the one the Macrium people created, and is the one you want to send to me (post in a Zip file, as instructed), The other 2 are garbage from before, please ignore them. Right click on Monday 5pm backup.xml and follow the rest of the instructions in my post.

    Just a heads up - be careful with WD externals. You can have major difficulties due to their hardware encryption;

    Thanks, but there is no longer an issue with the hardware (that I am aware of). He had botched data on it from a mistake in setup of Macrium. We got that fixed several days ago. This is currently dealing with making a custom Macrium Definition file.

    This has got nothing whatsoever to do with macrium

    Many WD externals have automatic encryption. That can cause major problems for the user. I don't recommend WD externals for that reason. It is a shame, because their regular HDs are pretty decent.

    No point in taking the risk - get your externals from Seagate or someone else.
