    Restoring HDD image to SSD

I am having dual boot PC, XP and Win 10, both on different HDD. I just bought a 250 GB SSD for restoring my Win 10 OS and System Reserved macrium image on this new SSD. I made three volumes 2 GB for System Reserved, 130 for OS and rest free. When I look in Disk Management, these volumes are Dynamic Wherein my HDD partitions are Primary , logical etc. I restored the Win 10 image to SSD but it is not booting. Please let me know, where I am doing mistake because if I restore on HDD then there is no problem.

Boot from the Macrium Refelct rescue USB flash drive. In the command prompt (available from the task bar) run:
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <-replace # with the actual number of the SSD
clean <- this will erase the selected disk, make sure you selected the SSD above
    exit
    exit

Then restore the desired partitions to the wiped clean SSD. You do not need to manually make the partitions, Macrium Reflect will do that for you.

Also 2 GB for a system reserved partition seems a little bit high. Not more than 500 MB would be more appropriate, unless there are other files in the system reserved partition other than the boot files.

You mean to say that I should not partition the SSD. I just avoid CMD so I have deleted all the parttions and SSD is showing all the space unallocated. If I use macrium, it does not select this SSD due to unallocated space. Should I make one single volume and then drag my backed up system reserved partition and OS partition to this Single Volume.

I could not found answer to my query that whether I should create a single volume on SSD or I can create multiple or should it left unallocated. Whether Macrium would recognize the unallocated space and restore the image. In my case when I left it unallocated, Macrium did not show up this SSD to restore the image on this SSD.

Macrium Reflect will recognize unallocated drives with no partitions on them and restore images and individual partitions to the unallocated space.

Sorry, I just tried but macrium is not seen unallocated SSD drive. Just to describe again , first I have made 3 volumes in SSD but then deleted and now I have all the space of SSD as unallocated. SSD is detected in BIOS but bootable macrium usb is not finding this SSD.

I went to Disk Management. I saw my one hard disk (HDD)was showing basic and SDD was showing Dynamic. I have now changed SDD from Dynamic to Basic and created 2 partitions , one for system reserved, second for OS and rest unallocated. Macrium has now detected this SSD and is restoring. Will let you know.

Thank God. Restored. Can anyone guide what the mess I made earlier, even unknowingly.

Hi sam9, windows will probably not be aware that it is no longer running on a spinning drive but on a SSD, to be on the safe side I would check if TRIM is enabled...
