    System Restore Failure AppxStaging 0x80070005

Just after installing the 1803 Feature Update, I did some updates to VS2017 which went rather badly wrong (I'll post about that one in aonther thread). So I though "Simples: Just do a System Restore".

    Unfortunately I got:

System Restore did not complete successfully

System Restore Failed while restoring the directory from the restore point
    Source: AppxStaging
    Destination: %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps
An unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x80070005)
Luckily a shift/restart from the power button on the login screen and system restore from "Advanced Options" did work.

Similar thing happened to me and the useless System Restore failed. I bit the bullet and did a clean install then deciding to try Macrum Reflect Free from these forums. After which I never bothered with the useless System Restore and Macrum is so good I upgraded to the Home version even though I don't need any of the Home features just to support the developers.

Now if I install that mess VS2017 and I don't like it I roll back to the previous Macrium Reflect. I also mess my computer almost weekly recently removing an registry entry that made the default programs app crash on launch but I am no longer worried as I just roll back to a precious Macrium backup and everything is there bit for bit the way I left it.

"Cats are the best pets." I agree dogmatically :)
