I image Macrum Backups every few days. I mess up my computer quite frequent and Macrum saved me every time unlike System Restore which decides to fail at the worst time.
Sorry I am not getting the notifications...
I just reinstalled my test pc but this time with only Windows 10 and not dual boot.
I will test Macrium again soon and get back to this post...
It's more reliable, better supported, documentation is in better English as are error messages.
It works in a couple of contexts AB doesn't when I tried it, then agreed by AB support.
AB's GUI is much simpler.
Macrium's commercial offering does something AB doesn't, I believe.
MR manages images better with more options.
Both have free and commercial versions.
You can get good responses from AB support but Macrium's forum is only available to commercial users.
Yesterday I enabled system protection to enable restore points in Windows 10. I then created a principal restore point after the whole process of installing Windows 10 and new applications and after a full IS scan, defrag, chkdsk etc. So I know it is good. I also created a Backup, System Image and System Repair Disk. I put the Backup and System Image on the Data partition and on an external disk.
Time will tell whether this will work in the event of an emergency... I think if you move the backup and system image folders from its original saved place on another drive Windows isn't too happy about it. I am not too sure how to find the path in the recovery module as it only gives me network options...
I installed Macrium Reflect Free again on a spare pc with a wiped HDD and Windows 10 installed (single boot) today. It has worked well in tests this afternoon to create an image. I restored from their rescue media and it also worked well.
I will do some more testing over the next few days to see what it is really like but perhaps the last test results with the old dual boot Windows 10 & 7 setup were marred by a corrupt MFT as I had to completely wipe the HDD externally as I could not even access the BIOS and had ended up with a black screen with a still underscore on the top left.
17677 Insider build, System Restore is disable by default again. sometimes they disable it and sometimes enabled, who want it, better check after every build.
