    Restore point error 0x80042308

I was hoping that someone can help me with the following problem When trying to create a RESTORE point:
“The specified object was not found – error 0x80042308”
Having just spent the whole trying to and finally fixing problem in my PC caused by the latest Win10 (Home) updates, I am intent on creating a restore point so that I don’t go through the same pain again. I have researched and tried almost all of the fixes suggested on the various Forums and am now at my wits end. Solutions attempted but not successful include:

    • SFC / Scannow (no integrity problems found) after multiple runs
    • Chkdsk /r (ran to end without errors)
    • DISM.exe restorehealth with reference to an ISO image running on a USB drive (this fixed the problems caused by Win 10 updates)
    • Turning Volume Shadow Copy to Automatic in Services
    • Turning Windows Backup to Automatic in Services
    • Changing Boot to Selective Startup with Load Startup Items unchecked
    • Turning off my Norton Firewall & Auto Protect features
    • In Services I have hidden MS services and disabled all other Services

All of the above have proved fruitless – HELP!!!

Has anyone out there any possible solution to this problem - I have searched the internet endlessly and tried every possible solution proposed but none have fixed the problem and allowed me to establish a Restore point.

While I know nothing about fixing restore points, WindowsClub has a utility that can monitor the existence of system restore points (SRPs), delete un-wanted SRPs, and even create its own SRPs -- which might do a much better job of creating and restoring SRPs than Windows' own built-in SRP maker/restorer. Me, personally, I've given up on SRPs, moved onto making routine backups of my OS and Data partitions onto external media.

    Restore Point Creation

Thanks RolandJS for the suggestion. In desperation I did last evening download Reimage from the Windows Clubs but it has failed to fix the problem and cost me $54 in the process. The same problem exists. I can't belive that Microsoft cannot get a definitive answer relating to what to look for in the event of Error 0X80042308.

I hope you can get a refund from Reimage! I just now realized I failed to mention earlier the WC utility: System Restore Manager v2 or whatever version is current.
