I'm late and you've made the right decision. +1 for Macrium (I was an Acronis user).

Ditto: +8 for Macrium (the number of PCs I have right now, and the number of PCs running Macrium).

I had paid versions of Acronis 2014 & 2015. It's a total PITA, difficult to control, and prone to interfering with life, such as running backups when you're trying to shut down a laptop when you're becoming late for travel, meetings etc. Their user support is difficult, and complaints about the product are usually met with a "you do not understand" response.
I use Macrium paid, fantastic product.
I think you find at least 80% of the macruim users here were ex-acronis !
Hi,
Never tried the other one but reflect free is good
Here's tutorial mentioned
I always liked this video too

You can get your monies worth for quite awhile if you made an ATI 2018 boot USB and/or DVD just before all your ATI2018 troubles began. I too have MR7 pay-for (the 4-computer-pack), Image for Window/.BootIt Bare Metal (5-computer pack), and Acronis True Image 2016 nonCloud. I have USB and DVD boots for all three, and can use any one or more for any particular backup session.
I use a scheduled job in Macrium Reflect Free to image my system every day. Easy to configure, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Create the Rescue Media with a wizard that builds the WinPE environment for you on a USB stick. Now you are ready for anything. Set and forget!
You can also mount a Macrium image in the Windows explorer to recover individual folders/files, so a separate backup job for folders/files is not really required.
I have used Norton Ghost, Acronis, Windows 7 Image, and this is the best so far.
My 2nd choice would be the Windows 7 image utility, but is a totally manual process. I still run it occasionally to have a backup that is accessible directly in Windows without any 3rd party software. Windows 7 Image is still supported in Win 8 and 10. These image files (.vhdx) can also be mounted and browsed to recover files without a full restore.
Hi there
@EdTittel
can I plead "The 5th" on that one -- also Guilty as charged m'Lud'. !!!!!
Getting rid of acronis was the best backup solution for windows I've ever done !!!! = Acronis used to be brilliant but times (and applications) move on !!!
Never a problem with Free macrium for Windows Imaging -- for data backups though on NAS I use GRSYNC (Linux GUI version of RSYNC).
Cheers
