Should I settle on Acronis True Image (paid version) or Macrium?

I think Macrium should offer free shares to senior members of this forum considering all the new business we have generated for them!

Me too. Don't know if it is better than Macrium but doubling up makes sense to me also.

I asked Aomei support about the key and they said it would fail to activate after the time period was over. I tried to use the backup dll file mentioned in another thread to save the Pro version and it didn't work.

Later yesterday, I was working with an older PC and Macrium worked great replacing an older smaller hard drive and using my network to backup/restore it from. Macrium is all I need.

For my 2 cents worth I'm very pleased with Macrium Reflect Free. I don't use the automated options and don't let its services run in the background. I take periodic full backup images and it works fine. I've had zero issues with it and have restored images on my Dell XPS 8900 desktop and my wife's Acer Aspire desktop (both Windows 10 Pro).

I have used it to clone HDDs to SSDs on both machines and had no problems. I abandoned my licensed ATI 2015 last year. The images were solid, no issues with data integrity or anything like that but otherwise I had nothing but headaches with it. First thing was a major headache creating boot media. Then there was a problem in that version where it wouldn't verify images on Windows.

It won't retain certain settings, won't retain my saved exclusions (had to keep re-adding them every time). Backup images were disappearing from its list and would not let me add then back in, and so. IDK about the new versions but I hate the ATI 2015 user interface. It's anything but intuitive. I'll stick with Macrium Reflect Free any day.

whatever you use you can never have too much backup. I'm sure about 70% of Windows problems could be fixed if people backed up their systems regularly.

Also folks DO test a restore from time to time -- it's no good taking backups for Donkey's Years and then you need a restore and it fails -- might be simply due to backup media has become defective or whatever. It's best to have more than one - and as I pointed out earlier those who have NAS type systems should back those up as well -- large capacity HDD space is cheap these days -- for data backup you don't need mega fast disks either --those small 4TB WD pocket sized self powered passport drives are ideal for that purpose -- connect via USB3 still acceptable performance although if using 2 or 3 at the same time it's best to connect them via a powered hub.
