I just did my first backup (clone) with Macrium.
Below is a screen capture of M7 settings and the clone on my backup drive
When I looked on the backup drive, the below image is what I found
Where are the partitions with the W10 OS program files etc??
It seems the Macrium made a copy of the data partition on my PC, but failed to copy the rest of the partitions
What probably went wrong? Thanks for your help
I think you cloned drive 1 to drive 2 not made an image backup. You can only clone one drive to another.
An image backup would show as a single file but would contain both drives 0 and 1 if you backed them up together.

I recommend you actually create two separate image backups as well, one for drive 0, and one for drive 1. Easier to manage them if separate.

You have all the boxes check marked, you only check mark the partitions you want to image.
Ya a clone is not a backup, it`s a clone.
As stated make images, don`t clone.
If I make 2 images as suggested would each image be restored separately?
would the backup be able to restore the data partition and the OS, booting up identically like the damaged drive ?
I am trying to differentiate the difference between a clone and backup images.
My goal is to be able to theoretically swap a bad hdd with the backup drive which when swapped would replicate the original drive that failed. Hope Im making myself clear
A full image can be of an entire drive, or of a partition within any particular drive; I make a full image of each of the following when I do backups: System Reserved, "C drive" (OS partition), "D drive" (data partition) onto external media. That external media because of its 1TB size can store two SysRes images, 2 C images, 1 D image.
Cloning, to me anyhow, means make an exact copy of a Source drive onto a target drive -- the target drive from beginning to end is an exact duplicate of the source drive. I have read posts elsewhere that mention cloning only partitions -- however, I have no real idea how that is done. I understand cloning is all, en toto, et al -- never bits and pieces of a source drive.
** There is one exception, I believe! Some utilities appear to be able to "intelligently copy" a source drive onto a target drive, meaning such utility can skip over bad sector/clusters and/or free space. I have never tried to do such, I cannot advise you about this. **
Because of my limited amount of things to backup or clone; I clone one complete drive to another drive.
I have had very few things to do using the clone drive.
You will have to go into 'protection' and activate the 'Restore Point' and set the amount of drive space when booting the clone drive for the first time. The clone drive does not have your old restore points. In other words, the cloning does not clone your restore points. I'm thinking the reason for not cloning Restore Points is because the old Restore Points might contain a problem that should not be cloned.
When done, all I have to do is pop the cloned drive into a HotSwap and boot using the 'F8' option if needed.
Using Macrium Reflect, I have never had a problem.
SSD to SSD takes about 6 to 8 minutes on my systems. If I don't rename the clone I can't tell the difference between the two.
