    Caught in safe mode

I tried to do a system restore... it failed several times using several restore points.

I finally took advice I found googling that suggested doing the system restore from safe mode.

Since apparently some kinds of software do not have the good manners to stop and let a restore happen.

I used the msconfig approach to get to safe mode. Start msconfig, click the `boot' tab, and check the `SAFE mode' box... then reboot.

When machine came back up, I logged into safe mode and started the restore. When the restore finally rebooted the machine, I get no mouse or keyboard. And of course it is coming up in safe mode.

Not sure what the difference was on the first boot into safe mode... mouse and keyboard worked as usual. But now with the restore done (I guess) I'm unable to get into the machine and turn the safe mode back off or do anything else; can't even tell if the restore was successful.

Any good ideas how I can get mouse and keyboard to work.

Any slick way to boot with a rescue disk and turn off safe mode? Some way to get at the same space that msconfig works on through its dialog box?

I don't have Windows 10, only Windows 7. If there is a way to "tell" msconfig.sys to do Selective Startup, OS boot information, and change the default from 10 to 60 seconds -- that would give you enough time to either accept default, normal, Windows load or to select F8 which offers 3 Safe Mode options. Remember I'm a W7 user, so please let me know if those choices are or are not possible, thanks!

    Rescue disk

Did you unplug the keyboard and mouse and put them back in?

    Ed - My pleasure entirely.

hput3, Ed - If you have any questions about the procedure I linked to then ask them here because I do not use that other forum anymore so I do not see any questions posted under that article. It is only lack of time that stops me re-posting the whole thing here in TenForums as a 'How to' thread.
