Having problem with Windows Defender Security Center

Hi guys, I am having a strange problem with Windows Defender Security Center in Windows 10 1709 (Build 16299.98). When I click on "Home" or "App & Browser control" WDSC will closes itself. No problem when click on "Virus & Threat Protection", "Device Performance & Health" & "Firewall & Network Protection". I am also able to run virus scan with Windows Defender. Event viewer log will shows error id 1000 (refer to attachment) when WDSC closes itself. I have ran SFC scanner & DSIM restore health with no error. Can't find any solution to my problem on web search. Hope some experts here can help me, thanks.

    Hi jhawk55.

While this idea does not get at root cause an inpace repair / upgrade solves a lot of issues. This will process will install V1709, FYI.

I would also do a complete data backup. It is a non destructive process but....

This thread had similar problems in 1703, including your error id 1000....

Windows Defender Security Center Won't Stay Open

...seems to have been a problem caused by having Norton as well. Do you have any other AV?

Not sure if this is a Windows or Norton issue, so I started a thread on the Norton board and didn't have any more luck.

    Thanks guys for replying...

@Bree, I have tried the suggestions in your links but problem is still there. I do not have other 3rd party Anti-virus. I do have Malwarebytes Pro which has being using with WD for many years without any issues.
@Caledon Ken, I have tried the in-place repair install but it did not solve the problem. It actually creates more issues for me that's why I restore back using backup image.

How I wish they have a reset command using Powershell or CMD just like Microsoft Edge...

What kind of problems did it create.

Unusual that it would cause any.

I see you have Malwarebytes. Have you tried uninstalling, as a test.

    @Caledon Ken,
Problem is I cannot access the "Home" or "App & Browser control" functions and other settings in the WDSC (It closes as soon as I click on them).
Will try uninstalling Malwarebytes and see if it helps, thanks.

I've run out of ideas. The repair processes, all three of them, aren't resolving your issue.

You might try a clean boot or Safe mode and see if problem persists. If it resolves then a third party app is at fault.

Have the necessary boot media ready and your data backed up. While neither of these processes are destructive I've had members get into trouble trying them.
