Just got an update thru Windows Update. Appears the Antimalware Client for Defender has been updated

I didn't have the updated Defender until just now when I checked for updates in Windows Defender Security Centre...

And the reason for this update is...

Microsoft has just released an emergency security patch

This update now seems to appear in windows update if you go to Settings > Update & security and check for updates, I've just updated one machine that way. On my main machine I got it earlier by opening Defender and manually checking for definitions updates.
Well, an added twist is that it now seems Microsoft have pulled the Antimalware Client update KB4052623 (Version 4.12.17007.17123).

An occupation hazard of offering support in these forums is that sometime you break your own machine trying to investigate a poster's problem. I lost the performance slider on my power icon. Apparently you have to switch the power plan to 'balanced' to get it back - and if that doesn't work there's no known easy fix. So an in place repair install it was - and back to 16299.15 and checking for update all over again...

And that's when I found the Antimalware Client update had gone AWOL. There were two parts to this security patch, the first being the update to the Malware Protection Engine. That I did get...

First version of the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine with this vulnerability addressed Version 1.1.14405.2
    https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2017-11937

...but the Antimalware Client is just the visible UI, the Defender Security Centre, and not the critical scan engine that needed patching. That I could not get any more, either through Windows Update or checking for updates in Defender.

Odd - any idea why Microsoft apparently have stopped releasing this update?

Wish I wasn't subscribed to this. Wouldn't probably have ever known that the Performance and Power Saving settings are gone from power options. I am already on "Balanced" so not sure what you mean by switching to it. I certainly am not doing a repair install.

I did nothing but update my computer and I lost functionality. MS is one messed company. Hoping they fix it somehow.

edit: Or maybe that is how its supposed to work? Searching shows me multiple power plan options were removed with some update. Now you are supposed to left click on the battery icon and there is a slider there. All seems messed to me.

edit 2: Apparently yes it is how its supposed to work. This may help someone. "If you right-click on the battery symbol in Systray and start Mobility Center you can still see three power plans in the combo box and select one."
