Is there still any reason to use Windows Defender?

I know my internet safety well. I don't pirate and download sketchy things from sketchy websites. I also run weekly scans of Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, and SuperAntiSpyware, all of which are the top recommended free applications for their purpose. However, as for my AV, Windows Defender doesn't seem to be the best around. Is there any reason to stick with it, or should I switch to a better and leaner free antivirus? If so, what do you recommend?

Windows Defender works fine IMHO and it's pretty lean compared to others options out there.

Windows Defender by itself (well, and Windows firewall) is all I have used for years on my home network of almost a dozen computers and I've stayed virus and malware free every since upgrading to Windows 10 before it was release publicly. So now you have two votes for dumping everything else except Windows Defender.

Agree 100%. With the Fall Creators update Defender now has a Controlled Folder and exploit protection. I would still use another layer such as Malwarebytes to cover all bases though. SuperAntiSpyware mostly detects cookies though so I wouldn't really say it provides much protection.

You will find it common on this forum that many people use the combination of defender and Malwarebytes. To add, I also use SuperAntiSpyware for malicious cookies.

I personally use WD & Comodo Firewall & Sandboxie for Firefox and then every week or so I use a free stand alone scanner like F-Secure or microsoft safety scanner just for my own piece of mind.

Windows Firewall & Defender with MBAM & Adwarecleaner here with no problems. And yes, WD is lean compared to others out there.

I don't see any overhead with KIS over WD (was never a WD fan, anyway)

Some interesting stuff, they (as in Kaspersky Free) provide a current infection graph

So many using the KMS exploit!
