    Comcast windows 10

I have been using the Windows 10 firewall and Defender.I was reading about a clean install at youtube and got 9 trojans. it is a very good thing I have MBAM installed as it removed all after quarantine.
Although the choice of protection is subjective, I need advice because I spent over an hour reading up on security.
I have Comcast so Norton's security suite is available free.
I read how avira and avast are rated well for a/v.
I was reading about all the firewalls and that totally confused me.

Could you please suggest some decent, simple protection?

If you want to use Norton get the one that is installed and comes with a Firewall. I just use Defender and the MS Firewall and had no issues.

Do you have any other protection besides Windows Defender in Windows 10 firewall?
I have a router and I am assuming you do also. Perhaps the hits I took at YouTube we're just a matter of bad luck.
I would prefer stock windows if I thought it was safe; well I'm glad you had better luck than I do.

I run MBAM every know and then maybe every other week. I do not trust those ISP in the Cloud AV's . My ISP offers one and I never used it. I am careful of what sites I visit and so far with Windows 10 going back to build 9926 , I have had no problems.

I am a very conservative surfer as I am almost 80. I also run mbam now and then; maybe it is a throw of the ice.

    Hi,
    I personally use windows firewall
I have the free version of Panda antivirus
I also have mbam pro but I do not use it in win-10 just the free version since I had many issues with win-10 in the past and mbam has a 3 activation limit and it freezes unless one deactivates it first = a very weird policy by mbam.
    Once mbam freezes/ wont reactivate
I have to call and get the activation count reset sort of a pain to do.

Depending on how you watch youtube videos if using Edge
Win-10 comes packed with adobe flash player and is set to download or retain all of this streaming content
This is usually where the security hole is coming from.
So to be safer don't use edge.
Use Firefox/ Palemoon/... that will use html5 and you can watch youtube still without adobe flash player involved at all.
    YouTube

You can also get flash block... to stop other flash content on websites......
    YouTube ALL HTML5 :: Add-ons for Firefox

Ha I thought that I was the oldest member.. I also use Macrium Reflect and I do a backupup image every day as I do not use sytem restore points, they take up space and the restore is not trustworthy, MR's is.

@josey I too use MR but also have restore points as a first step if trouble arises. MR has saved my bacon on more time than I can remember and has never failed. It will boot off the right flash drive even with UEFI.

@Thrash Thank you for the Panda referral I will check it out. I never use Edge. I have used Chrome for years as my wife has a chromebook which is great and syncs well with the desktop. I avoid adobe like the plague.

Not using Edge is a good idea but I have doubts about removing it. Compared to your storage it is miniscule.
