Hi Ron. I agree with dencal as you haven't even got V1703.

Before trying diagnostic procedures I always recommend that you create a backup of your data off machine, create an Image with a tool like Macrium Reflect and have bootable media that matches your current Windows environment.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

With data backed up I would try this process. If you download the Media Creation tool today you will get V1709.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

If you don't want to make such a big jump you could try resetting Windows Update. You will lose Windows Update history but that doesn't mean things will be loaded twice, just you can't review.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    Back your data up.

From what I've researched, the ads a ligit, however the Norton community isn't too happy about it. You can find further information about krack & the ads here:

Have a look here & make sure everything is updated. My router got an update for the problem the next day. Other devices/platforms may be a bit slower in patching the problem.

Bit odd that Norton would charge for something that they should be covering anyway?

Well I upgraded to version 1709 which apparently has the necessary anti virus included in the upgrade.
I thought it was a cheek too especially since I am supposed to have Deluxe anti virus coverage. It is something I will be taking up with them tomorrow.

Excellent V1607 to V1709. Don't forget to take an Image with a tool like Macrium Reflect.

I run Norton AV, I don't recall seeing ant ad.

    Hi Ken,

Sorry to say I don't understand why and of which image I should be taking and where and what is a Macrium Reflect please? The update has been completed so it may be too late to take the image??? I would be very grateful if you could explain what it is you are suggesting as I am anxious to learn.

    Kindest regards,

Yeah, I hadn't seen one either....until yesterday afternoon. One of the ones that pops up on the bottom R of the screen occasionally. It mentioned krack, but I didn't really read it, just X'd it off.

I am trying to discover whether MS Windows10 Vers 7109 has protection against a KRACK Wi-Fi attack? Cannot seem to get an answer, except from Norton who want 30 for a years protection which I think is a bit much as I am already a customer of theirs. I have turned on my MS Defender but am wondering if that is enough. Any ideas?

    Cheers,

and it appears to want you to buy a VPN like service. Not really a fix for the weakness other than a VPN tunnel within.

Ron, Macrium Reflect allows you to take an "Image" (copy) of your entire system or just the partitions that support Windows operation.

So the idea is you have a working copy of Windows, things are the way you want them, programs have been customized, networks set, program defaults set etc. So now you take an Image, maybe you take one a week, one every two weeks or a month.

Should a bug come along, or an update craps out your system you pull out your Image and restore your system.

There are some strategies you can use around your data. Lots of members keep on separate partition making restoration of system less complex.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
