    Windows Defender Tray Icon

Having just updated Windows to version 1709 16299.19 the Icon for Defender is no longer there. Checked notifications and defender is not even listed.

In Task Manager start up there is just the word Windows and not defender ( see pic). So this new version of windows has messed up Defender in some way. Before the up date defender icon was in the system tray and now it's gone.
Anyone else having this with the 1709 up date?

You are missing a space in "ProgramFiles". If you use a variable, you do not need to include space, like:

    Code:
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "Windows Defender" /t REG_SZ /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCuiL.exe" /f

Many thanks for your reply, have added a space between program and files but, it still doesn't work.

You can run CMD as admin and copy/paste the code above.

OK, Had to change name to Security Health and now it works. My other machine had this name on completion of the update and defender was working fine. So something in the update screwed up on my main machine.

I had the same issue - the icon is missing. Upgraded from Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 1703 to 1709...

Task Manager shows Windows Anti Malware is running, but not Defender.

Adding it (as above) to 'run' worked for me.

I also upgraded a virtually identical machine and didn't have this issue. Strange.

    Cheers,

    Mike.
