    Password Protect Folder

Is there an easy way to password protect a folder on my laptop? I mean I've found some tedious instructions with creating a text file but they dont seem to work.

    Thanks

Hi, it depends what you want, and how secure you want the outcome to be.

Veracrypt (sort of successor to/replaces Truecrypt - which still works but has been retired) - free- creates an encrypted container into which you can move files when that container is mounted as a drive.

Otherwise you can find a variety of programs simply by searching- you will need to check how secure these are.

    @dalchina,
    G'Day,
I thought you may like to know that the first hyperlink is now dead.
The second link lead to some interesting programs, of which I am going to try out a couple.
    Cheers :)

Looks more like a temporary site problem. Anyway things change as you know, those were simply indicative - easy enough to just do an appropriate search- many lists of such programs.

    Too true.

I have decided to try VeraCrypt.
I see you have recommended it in other threads.
    Getting old and forget passwords.
I use Lastpass in my browser but sometimes I need to access passwords for other reasons.
I have a folder with all the passwords in it and want to encrypt it and use a passphrase.
    VeraCrypt may do the trick.

You can use winrar or 7zip to create password protected (compressed) folders with *.rar *.zip or *.7z extension as you like.

    Thanks for that info.
I think I will do that for the backup of the folder, held in another place.
