    "Resources Already In Use" Error

    All,

I uninstalled my Antivirus software program because I purchased a license for BitDefender. The problem is I can't install anything. When I double click on the .exe file I get an error message stating "resource already in use" Now I'm stuck with no Antivirus program and no malware programs. I tried using Malwarebytes Anti Root to clear up the issue but midway through it freezes up (No Response). So I'm at a lost.

Is there a way I can place .exe onto a DVD and install from that? I can just place the DVD in and the installation process will start. I need to do something because right now my computer is exposed. If you're wondering I learned of the error after I uninstalled my antivirus program.

    Suggestions??

    Take care,

    Craig

That's another minor problem. My box was custom built and I don't know how to get into safe mode. I researched online and attempted what I read, but no luck. I know how to get into the setup menu, but that's it.

You may be infected with Adware.Yelloader. I saw you already did this but try it again and let it sit not responding fo about an hour before you give up.

Please follow the instructions below to remove the infection.

    1. Download version 1.09.4.1001 of Malwarebytes Anti Rootkit (MBAR)
    https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/h72aj...u7msx810wz75jl
    2. Run the exe.

    Click ok to extract.
    3. After extraction MBAR should start.

    Click next.

    4. Update by hitting the update button.

After the update completes hit next.
    5. Hit the scan button. Please let it finish the scan. This rootkit may slow your machine down and MBAR may look like it will freeze but it will continue to scan. Please allow it to do so. It could take a couple hours.

    6. Once the scan is complete, press the cleanup button and allow MBAR to remove what is found and allow your computer to restart. Please don't click on the window why cleanup is running. This may delay it even more.

    7. Malwarebytes functionality should be restored. You must run a Malwarebytes threat scan so any remaining detections are removed.

    This should remedy the rootkit.

Whatever AV you used, did you use the AV's uninstaller program. If you uninstalled it using windows uninstaller there may be orphan files from the last AV that are causing problems.

There is a list of uninstallers here for common AV's. If you did not use the AV uninstall tool, it would be a good idea to d/l it & run it.

Uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus softwareESET Knowledgebase

Removal tools (uninstall tools) for common antivirus software

Anti-virus software components insert themselves deep into the operating systems core where they install kernel mode drivers that load at boot-up and create numerous files, folders, and registry entries in various locations making it more difficult to remove. It is not uncommon for some anti-virus programs to not completely uninstall itself using the usual method of Apps & features in Windows 10 or Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) in Control Panel or to result in various errors due to the presence of related services and processes running in the background.

Most anti-virus vendors provide clean-up utilities (removal tools) on their web sites to remove remnants left behind after uninstalling, or for a failed uninstall or failed reinstall. Remnants include related registry entries, files and folders created in various areas of the OS. It's always best to download directly from the vendor's site to ensure you are using the most current version of the uninstall utility as it is not uncommon for third-party hosting sites to have outdated versions which may not work properly.

I've tried using Malwarebytes Anti-Root before but after 15 min or so, it always freezes up (no response). As for uninstallers, I always use Revo or IOBit.

"Resources Already In Use" Error - Anymore Suggestions??

    All,

First of all, thank you for responding to my original post. I'm still having problems correcting this problem. The main problem to fixing this is I can't install (both safe mode and standard mode) any security software because I get this error. Right now, my only antivirus support is Windows Defender and BitDefender Rescue DVD. I downloaded SpyHunter, ReImage, AdAware Cleaner, Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes BUT I can't install them. I've read numerous articles online and they suggest the above software to fix this. I was able to run Malwarebytes Anti Root BUT midway through it freezes up (No Response). I ran this in safe mode and standard mode. I even ran it with internet turned off. I'm running out of options here. Should I do another clean install of Win 10??

    Please help.

This is a new tool that fixes the untrusted certificates issue that causes this. It was written by a Malwarebytes staff member.

There is another rootkit scanner you can run which you may have better luck with - TDSSKiller.

    TDSSKiller Download

Another tool you may wish to utilize is RKill. This will attempt to terminate any malware processes running in the background preventing the scans for completing. Do NOT reboot after running this, instead immediately run your malware scanners.

    RKill Download

    Note   Note
As RKill only terminates a program's running process, and does not delete any files, after running it you should not reboot your computer as any malware processes that are configured to start automatically will just be started again. Instead, after running RKill you should immediately scan your computer using some sort of anti-malware or anti-virus program so that the infections can be properly removed.
