Quite simply because if I am going to go through the trouble to reinstall Windows on top of Windows I might as well start completely over at that point. I'd prefer to keep this going as a point of ego (as explained before) and it angers me Avast! caused all this simply by existing on my PC. I will never make that mistake again!
I don't disagree with you that Avast! should be considered malicious at this point but I can assure you I ran that tool and I'm still able to boot. I wouldn't put it past them to be guilty of causing a myriad of issues but with this one I am unable to recreate it.
I really wish there was another solution but it looks like I'll be breaking out Parted Magic to format my SSD and starting from a clean slate. Thanks for all your help! This thread can be closed on the condition it is not marked as "Solved" if possible.
I have the same issue. The only other AV I have had is MBAM free. It has never caused a problem b4 since it isn't a running AV. But I did uninstall it with no change.
