I know it doesn't help now, but in the future you may wish to consider making a system image, using either Macrium Reflect Free or Windows Ten built in image maker. This will save you a lot of time & frustration should something like this happen in the future.

A system image is an exact copy of all system disks which can be used to restore your PC to the state it was in at the time the image was made. By default, a system image only includes the drives that Windows requires to run, including Windows 10 itself, your system settings, programs, and files. You may also include any other drive in the image if you wish. When you restore your computer from a system image it is a complete restoration, you cannot choose individual items to restore and all of your current programs, system settings, and files are replaced with the contents of the system image.

Keep the image on an external HDD/SSD/FD and have it hooked up only when making images for storage. Keep several past older images on the drive in case you inadvertently make an image containing malware. (I keep the last 5 on file in addition to the current one).

Some types of malware nowadays will seek out any backup image files & corrupt them. Hence the reason for keeping them on a drive that is not always hooked up to the computer.

I agree. I'm going to do a clean install.
You made a great effort, but this is probably a wise decision.

Macrium images in the future will help alleviate this situation, as Borg suggests.

Torrenting should be discontinued. Everything from a torrent is suspect and likely a problem. Unless you are a star coder and can reverse-engineer everything you torrent for malware, you should just stay away.

    Good luck! :)

Lots of members here using Windows Firewall & Defender. Myself included.

Edit: Forgot to mention using Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner too.

    Good Luck.

This is really personal preference. Cant speak for others, but can tell you what am I using:

    Bitdefender free for AV
    Smartscreen enabled in Windows defender
Malwarebytes Anti exploit - extra protection for browsers
downloading programs from known sites - check downloads on sites like Softpedia (they have clean sign) or Thechsupportalert (Gizmo site for freeware.

    Backup
-system image with weekly update - with Macrium reflect
-data backup with WD backup on NAS and images on external drive

ESET NOD32 is the best in my opinion (but not free).
It's what I use on my main rig.

If you want to use Windows Defender, I would add Malwarebytes Antimalware Pro (paid version) to it.

I've used Avast! Free for many years on many systems, and it's very good, but bothersome with all its "notifications", and starting to cause some problems with its file scanner, slowing some things down, so I've noticed recently.

As everyone says, your best bet is regular images with Macrium.
