    Safely Uninstall Norton Internet Security?

Since installing Norton I've got two financial websites that I can't log into with IE-11 or MS Edge. Both browsers exhibit the exact same behavior. Both browsers allow me to log in to the sites and I'm immediately logged back out! Been through all the usual routines with no success. Norton says it's the web sites and the web sites say it's Norton. The support techs all say they've never heard of the problem. Meanwhile Chrome still works normally on the two websites.

With the coming of CU I'm looking to head off any more potential conflicts. Should I be able to uninstall Norton (following their instructions), re-enable Windows Defender and Firewall and expect no real issues.

Will someone please offer me some guidance here. Thank you for your time here.

It is best to use AV's uninstaller to avoid any problems.

Thanks for the response, but Norton's tool is geared to uninstall and reinstall after restart. I just want to get rid of it completely.

    Copied from Norton:

"Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool
If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.
To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.
    Double-click the NRnR icon.
Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
    Click Remove & Reinstall.
You may see the Remove button if your Norton product is from your service provider.
    Click Continue or Remove.
    Click Restart Now.
After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall your Norton product."

Basically I'm unsure of whether or not uninstall alone (no reinstall) can be done with the tool.

Sorry, I have not noticed it is so aggressive. I guess one more reason not to recommend Norton.

It can be harder to get rid of than an unwanted in-law house guest.

Nortons is not that hard to remove, just got to use the right methods, Use Nortons uninstall, OR Revo Uninstall, then run CCleaner and let it check your registry for leftovers, as their will be a lot most likey. I've been running Nortons for years, and never have had any problems like yours, but I don't use IE or Edge. IE is old and too outdated. even after the latest Windows update. Good luck.

Revo Uninstaller Pro is what you need. Removing Norton is not that easy. Make sure you are selecting the middle one or Pro free trial (29 days). The actual version is 3.1.9. You have to select uninstall if you see it or forced uninstall if not shown. Decline the offer of Norton the remove it and choose advanced after: Select all and delete twice.
Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

PS: You should also run Ccleaner after for the removal of dead keys. Norton implementation is deep in Win Ten architecture and they won't let you go or loose you easily.

A quick chat with Norton support says:

"Yes you can use the advance option from the removal tool and use the remove only option so that Norton does not reinstall after the restart."

I'm going to hold off a bit before doing anything. Hoping to maybe hear from someone that's done this and can share their experience. Thank y'all for the advice, it is appreciated.

    Revo does the work!

If you have never run CCleaner, it is safer to fully remove Norton manually after Revo. Open regedit, search (find) for Norton, delete highlighted key O-N-L-Y, click F3 (find next) and repeat until no result. Refresh regedit F5, exit and reboot.

Ccleaner (5.28) comes with Google Chrome = uncheck on the left + under customize, uncheck the 2 first + automatically check for update. Run Ccleaner installer. After, under registry, run registry cleaner (check all).

Plus, under tools/Startup: Windows + Scheduled tasks Advanced Mode + Context Menu, Kill all remaining stuff. Rerun registry cleaner. Rerun Revo/Windows Cleaner/check all/clear.

Norton populates Windows architecture like no other and requires some extra tasks.

Like I told you earlier, I HAVE removed Norton many times in the past, and used Norton's removal tool. But there are many places in your registry, that Norton's is still in. Only about 2 ways to remove those entries, Manually, using regedit. Or use a 3rd party registry cleaner, which most people on here don't approve of. In any case, I would make a complete image backup of your system BEFORE you touch your registry. I recommend using Macrium Reflect to make your image backup. Choice is yours of course. 3rd choice on your registry, is just leave it alone, after you remove Norton. Unless you know what your doing inside your registry, its best to leave it alone.
