A backup will absolutely help. If its kept uptodate, then if he gets attacked he can just pull the latest file from the backup.

Not, if somebody just want to know what's in the files :)

Which is as good a reason as any to encrypt your files using Bitlocker.

Enable bitlocker, and/or Disable hibernation and Encrypt page file.

Store all sensitive documents on encrypted external volume that you physically disconnect and take with you when you aren't using it.

Run as a standard user and try not to get any malware as if you install some malware that copies your files it doesn't matter what encryption you use.

Because nobody can be hacker-proof, I suggested external backups, I think I even implied the 3-2-1 plan as just one idea of several out there. Now, to keep documents as safe as possible -- visit bleepingcomputer.com, search for Quietman7's template threads and posts concerning: security, anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware, and other key words. He has a wealth of information! And, of course, keep checking in here -- there are many security specialists right here in tenforums as well.
