xg4ken malware

On my computer this stops me from getting to bestbuy.com. I can get to corporate.bestbuy.com but not bestbuy.com. Probably there are other URLs also infected (on my computer) but I don't try to reach them.

I have Malwarebytes, Avast and Windows Defender. All report no issues and in fact I do not get any weird popups at all.

There are 64 files on my C: drive which contain the words xg4ken.com . And in my hosts file (and a few others) I associate this url with 127.0.0.1 . So it's not going anywhere (as far as I know). BUT how do I get rid of it? The redirect occurs in all my browsers (but all fail to reach that site).

I've looked at several "removal" tools for this but have no way to evaluate them.

Remove Xg4ken.com from your IE/FF/Chrome - Remove Malware Virus

I followed the steps in that link. It's not in my registry; not in Programs and Features. None of my anti-virus software report it as a problem. That link seemed more of an ad to download that software than anything else.

If its a browser re-direct AdwCleaner may get rid of it.
