    We have an update for you

    I have a blue box appear on my desktop that says "We have an update fo you" then the choices "Update", "Pick a time", "Snooze". There is no indication it is a real Windows message. Everything on the desktop is locked out. If I do Control/Alt/Del, and launch Task Manager, it appears in the backround, but I cannot click on it. All I can do is Signout and log back in. It will reappear again after a while. I have Windows Defender. I downloaded and installed MalwareBytes. I ran it and it found and quarantined 36 Pup files. So far it has not returned today, yet.

    Hello, welcome to tenforums,

    There's no question there, so I assume your question is 'Could you please help me to identify this prompt?'

    You should be able to identify the process responsible using, for example, WinSpy++
    WinSpy++ 1.7 | Catch22

    I would also suggest you run some serious antimalware scans. Others will probably make appropriate suggestions.

    I certainly "smells" of the preamble for one of the plethora of ransomware type of malware attack.

    This is one that appears similar to what you describe ...

    Remove "Warning! Critical update!" virus (Removal Guide)

    As stated above I would suggest you (start in safe mode ) run a selection of malware tools
