Windows Defender is not sufficient to rely on on its own Several security channels on youtube can attest to that. It is particularly bad with zero day protection. You should at least have another scanner such as Malwarebytes and maybe a second opinion scanner that you can run on demand.

    See the following videos:

All good observations. Nothing wrong at all with a multi-level approach to keeping the Bad Guys out. I use Defender, along with MBAM and a few other magical brooms! :) Whatever works for you, there really is no right or wrong answer.

As stated by others here, it's difficult to address @Greenguru's issues when all that is said is Defender has a lot of problems and needs work. Details would be helpful.

First problem with Defender is how long it takes to run a full scan. Truly dismal. Second problem with defender is how much CPU process it uses on start-up. Third problem, no information on how , or what, it scans when running.

On here, it's quicker and consumes less resources than Norton Internet Security. Whole machine is faster since unloading NIS. Just hope I'm covered ...

You might want to add the free version of Malwarebytes to help protect you.

Download here, decline the trial of the paid version unless you want it.

Have to agree with you on this. Truly dismal lack of information.

No, it's not very informative. Wonder about the new version in the Creators Update?
