new to windows 10 and wondering about windows defender

that sounds like a good plan
probably going to do that later when I get home, having coffee at starbucks now

I have resolved these issues by setting up more exceptions. I can now continue using Good ole' Defender. AVAST had slowed things down by a bit.

I have always had some issues with Avast disk and memory performance. Windows Defender is great, fast and minimal memory footprint. If I need fancy features that any internet security suits offers, then I install BitDefender, but I doubt I will ever need all those added features anymore.

you have to find an alternate anti virus, best for you. check any sales on Walmart etc.
