Hardware based attacks do sound scary. I guess watch out for people trying to plug stuff into your laptop!
Disabling DHCP and setting network manually will care of it. DHCP is used in many similar attacks anyway. But for some silly reason, Windows Updates requires DHCP service to be running. Go figure.
