It's always up to date that way. Plus for me there are advantages in using one program as a wrapper to launch multiple sytem tools, scans of fixes without needing to remember them or where they are located or their command lines.

I am having trouble cleaning Chrome installations with AdwCleaner. For instance, when default search engines are changed, AdwCleaner cleans them, reboot, they reappear after rerunning AdwCleaner again. Using ZHPCleaner for instance cleans them for good.
Probably because you have sync on in Chrome and they get reinstalled.
I had the problem that Yahoo search(never used it ever) kept coming back.
After I went to all my PCs and nuked it manually from Chrome, it stopped reinstalling.
Hi folks
This is a bit like saying "Porsche cars has acquired the old Pony Express " -- with Windows 10 these days who needs either of these products any more -- OK for those who get these for "peace of mind" --OK then realize that's a psychological call but in no way a technical call.
I wonder how often does MB throw up stuff that WD doesn't --False positives (which are annoying anyway because these have to be manually checked to see if they really are not malovelent or really do contain or nasty payloads) excluded.
A lot of these products were fine when even a sieve had better protection than Windows --these days with WD based on the NSA / CIA approved security that exists on MS's robust AZURE cloud servers who really needs these alternatives on basic home computers.
Most problems on Home computers comes from fake websites, scams, identity theft etc -- very little / almost none comes from actual virus infection these days (note HOME not corporate or large networked systems -- that's another ball game where these A/V companies ought to be basing their efforts on now).
Protecting against scams using computer applications requires an incredible amount of A.I (Artificial Intelligence) - which at current level is no where near the level of even a modest level of Human Brain !!
Clean backup and restore with programs like Free Macrium are a much better bet -- especially if your systems are on SSD -- often as little as 10 mins --I'll bet NO virus cleansing program can work that fast and also be guaranteed 100% effective to have cleansed an infected computer -- a Clean restore is 100% Clean !!!.
Cheers

I'm a ZHPCleaner fan. I don't use chrome but have you tried Avast Browser Cleanup utility?
Avast Browser Cleanup - FAQs | Official Avast Support
It's a standalone app:

Good day Callender.
I have not tried it because most of the time ZHPCleaner does its job beautifully and I do not like AVAST products that much.
I have been unable to succesfully cleaning 5 unwanted Chrome extensions. I have tried AdWcleaner, ZHPCleaner, RogueKiller, Zemana antimalware. In the interim I have posted at Malwarebytes forum.
This is a excerpt from AdwCleaner cleaning log:
***** [ Chromium (and derivatives) ] *****
Not Deleted McAfee Security Scan+ - bopakagnckmlgajfccecajhnimjiiedh
Not Deleted OnlineMapSearch - fifencjgcochlanolfhaoaalbakbdoof
Not Deleted Search Extension by Ask - eocnnoackodjagdbaoddhjbkpjabimed
Not Deleted igdhbblpcellaljokkpfhcjlagemhgjl

I don't know why but AdwCleaner is the only program picking up this.
Have you tried looking in the log file to see where they might be on the system.
I once had to do it manually that way, for something, I forget what it was now though..
