    Can you post a log file from AdwCleaner? That will tell you (and us) exactly what it is.

    I had a very similar experience a couple of days ago dealing with 2 PUP files that AdwCleaner was unable to remove. If the log file shows it as a registry entry it's very easy to remove. In my case going into the registry and deleting the files from dom (similar to cookies) storage did the trick and AdwCleaner now runs clean again.

    This is only positive entry:

    ***** [ Firefox URLs ] *****

    PUP.Optional.Legacy api.bing.com

    Since then, I had to restore to earlier (2 days old) MR backup because of a problem with Skippy update so now it's clean.

    That's nice. So it seems it was a FP after all.

    Must be but I hate when I can't find a cause.

    Hi folks

    @CountMike
    This is always the best way -- simply restore to a cleaner version of your system -- for even quite modest hardware backup / restore is fast and much more reliable than any amount of Virus etc cleaning -- especially if you start by using an infected computer to start with.

    It's a bit like being a Pilot and told your plane is defective but you will have to repair it while in the air and not on the ground. - I like flying but any sensible Pilot would presumably want to leave that plane on the ground until fixed !!!!

    Have to ask what sorts of sites are all you guys visiting if you get all this malware -- I've even visited places like the one flying the skull and cross bones, some sport streaming places and a few "unofficial" film places from central Europe - one not far from CountMike !!! and never had a smidgen of malware / viruses etc -- and I'm only using Windows Defender.

    Cheers

    Last time I had some real malware was when I connected someone else's HDD that he got from a flea market. Normally when I have to connect something like that I do it while booted to live Linux, check it out and do safe erase on it. This one time I didn't and all hell broke loose. Timely offline backup saved the day.
