Try running it with Windows in safe mode, maybe that'll help.
Being a PUP, it could be a program you want, but is classified because it falls under one of these rules: PUP Reconsideration Information & Request Form | Malwarebytes
Post it in the MBAM 3.0 forum, run their collection program to post with it?
They may be able to tell you what it is if they are willing to do so? You using the free or premium version?
Are you using Google Chrome Mike? I recall to have seen some sort of similar uncleanable Optional PUP Legacy thing once while using AdwCleaner. I have found out that AdwCleaner sometimes is unable to properly cleaning a heavily infected Chrome profile.
Can you try a second opinion using either Roguekiller or Zemana Antimalware?. Do a backup first or restore point and proceed with caution. These software tend to leave a lot of leftovers even when uninstalled.
If you're syncing your browsers, try turning off sync(on all of them) and run the cleaner.
I was having a problem getting rid of AOL and Yahoo(neither of which I ever used) but Chrome installed them a long time agow, and because of syncing they kept coming back until I turnned on all my PCs and VMs that had Chrome running on my Gmail account, and then deleted theose to search engines manually on all. They have never come back since.
